Terms of service

These terms apply when you use Betchoret, an iPhone app made by Kode Foundry. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the app.

Who can use Betchoret

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher. You must not be barred from using the service under the laws that apply to you.

One person, one account. Creating additional accounts to bet against yourself, to claim the opening coin grant more than once, or to work around a restriction is not allowed, and any account doing it may be closed.

Your account

You choose a username when you join. Keep your sign in details to yourself, and tell us at hello@kodefoundry.com if you think somebody else has got into your account.

You are responsible for what happens under your account, including the bets it makes and the content it posts.

Betch Coins

New accounts receive an opening grant of coins. Coins are won and lost by betting inside the app and by nothing else.

• Coins are a feature of the app, not property, and not currency.
• They have no cash value and are not redeemable for anything.
• They cannot be transferred between accounts except by settling a bet.
• We may adjust a balance to correct an error, and we record every correction.
• If your account is closed, any coins on it are gone.

How a bet works

One person states a prediction, sets the stake, states exactly how the result will be decided, and sets a deadline. Another person takes the other side. Both stakes lock when the bet becomes active.

Once a bet is accepted its terms cannot be changed. That is deliberate. Changing terms after coins are committed would make every bet arguable, so a change means creating a new bet instead.

If nobody takes a bet before its deadline, it expires and the stake goes back to whoever created it.

How results are decided

Bets are currently settled by mutual confirmation. Both participants say what happened. If they agree, the bet settles and the winner receives the pot. If they disagree, the bet is marked as disputed and both stakes stay locked until it is resolved.

Nothing releases contested coins automatically. Where we have to decide a dispute, we do so on the resolution statement the bet was created with, and our decision is final.

A tie returns both stakes unless the bet says otherwise.

What you may not do

• Create bets on anything illegal, on harming yourself or another person, or on events involving people who have not consented to be the subject of one.
• Create bets that rely on information you are not allowed to act on, or that are designed to manipulate a market.
• Arrange the outcome of a bet with the other side to move coins between accounts.
• Harass, impersonate, threaten or abuse anybody.
• Interfere with the service, try to get around its limits, or access parts of it you have not been given access to.

We may remove content, restrict an account, or close one, where any of this happens. Where it is practical to tell you why, we will.

Content you post

You keep ownership of what you write and upload. You give us permission to store and display it inside the app so the service can work, including showing your bet to the people it is offered to.

You are responsible for having the right to post what you post.

Closing your account

You can delete your account in the app, under Profile. Deleting removes your profile, your username, your coins, your contact details and your profile picture.

You cannot delete an account while a bet is still running. The person on the other side has coins committed to the outcome, and removing one side would leave theirs with nothing to settle against. Wait for those bets to finish, or withdraw the ones nobody has taken.

Records of coin movements are kept after deletion. They are what the system is reconciled against and removing them would leave balances that nothing explains. Once your profile and sign in are gone, those records no longer identify you.

Availability

We do not promise the service will always be available or free of faults. We may change features, and we may stop offering the service. If we stop, we will give reasonable notice where we can.

Liability

Betchoret is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, Kode Foundry is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Because coins have no monetary value, losing them is not a financial loss.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Betchoret after that means you accept the change.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Lebanon, and the courts of Lebanon have jurisdiction, except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
